The Winter Simulation Conference (WSC) is the premier international forum for disseminating recent advances in the field of system simulation. In addition to a technical program of unsurpassed scope and quality, WSC provides the central meeting place for simulation practitioners, researchers, and vendors working in all disciplines and in the industrial, governmental, military, and academic sectors. WSC'09 will feature a comprehensive program ranging from introductory tutorials to state-of-the-art research and practice. The conference includes student presentations, exhibits, training sessions by software vendors, business meetings for professional societies and software user groups, and a general reception. The theme for WSC 2009 is "Energy Alternatives".
WSC 2009 will be held in exciting Austin, Texas at the Hilton Austin Hotel, December 13th-16th. The Hilton Austin hotel is located in downtown Austin, one block from the city’s famous Sixth Street nightlife and a short stroll to the entertainment, shopping and dining in the Warehouse Entertainment District and 2nd Street District. Located seven miles from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, the hotel is convenient to many attractions such as the Capitol Building, Bob Bullock Texas Historical Museum and the LBJ Presidential Library. The Hilton Austin features 800 luxurious rooms with views of downtown Austin and Town Lake. Hotel amenities include high speed internet access, two restaurants, a bar and a coffee shop and a full service health club and spa with a modern fitness center and pool.
Our keynote speaker will be Admiral Bobby R. Inman, Lyndon B. Johnson Centennial Chair in National Policy, The University of Texas at Austin Lyndon B. Johnson School of Public Affairs. Admiral Inman served in the U.S. Navy from November 1951 to July 1982, when he retired with the permanent rank of Admiral. While on active duty he served as Director of the National Security Agency and Deputy Director of Central Intelligence. After retirement from the Navy, he was Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Microelectronics and Computer Technology Corporation (MCC) in Austin, Texas for four years and Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer of Westmark Systems, Inc., a privately owned electronics industry holding company for three years. Admiral Inman also served as Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas from 1987 through 1990.
Admiral Inman's primary activity since 1990 has been investing in start-up technology companies, where he is Chairman and a Managing Partner of Gefinor Ventures. He is a member of the Board of Directors of Massey Energy Company and several privately held companies. He serves as a Trustee of the American Assembly and the California Institute of Technology. He is a Director of the Public Agenda Foundation and is an elected fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration.
For the second consecutive year, WSC will incorporate the MASM (Modeling and Analysis for Semiconductor Manufacturing) Conference, the leading modeling and analysis conference specific to global semiconductor manufacturing and supply chain operations.
WSC ’09 will feature an expanded training track, with opportunities to attend half and full-day classes throughout the week, some of which will provide continuing education credits (CEUs). Additionally, as part of the conference theme of 'Energy Alternatives,’ WSC 2009 will feature an energy simulation track, highlighting the cutting edge research and practical applications of simulation in this vitally important field.
